Vintage Watchstraps. This page is not intended to be a comprehensive reference of watch movements, of which there are hundreds, possibly thousands. It is a small selection of often unidentified old movements that I have been able to positively identify. I don’t intend to show movements with their makers names on them, because they are already identified.
The idea of this page is to try to identify otherwise unknown movements found in the type of watches that I collect, which are principally Great War era men’s wristwatches with 12 or 13 ligne movements.

These were made by a British subsidiary, Ingersoll Ltd, initially assembled from imported parts.
Description A s Ingersoll Reliance pocket watch. In about , Robert Hawley Ingersoll and his brother Charles Henry recognized the need for an inexpensive watch that nearly anyone could afford. Ingersoll opened up two new factories at Waterbury and Trenton, New Jersey. This was one of the few watches that Ingersoll said could be serviced rather than a ‘disposable’ product. The stem-winding movement on this particular watch is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to around one minute over 24 hours.
The Geneva style stripes across the movement are a good sign of quality. The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The screw-on case back is beautifully detailed and has a vacant cartouche to the centre. There is a faint hairline crack although it is difficult to see with the naked eye. Blued steel hands, subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
